I like that word. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeenanigans! I also like Shillelagh for the same reason! But enough about funny sounding words!
My boss got back yesterday. Today I got into the office at 10:30 because I was dealing with the government stuff for myself. When I came in she was washing dishes.
10:45 - I gave her an itemized list of people she needed to call about stuff that needed doing prioritized by urgency of need to be completed.
10:45 - 11:00 - Spent fifteen minutes going over it even though I HAD WRITTEN EXPLANATIONS OF WHY THE STUFF NEEDED TO BE DONE ANYWAY.
11:00 - 11:30 - She walked the dogs.
11:30 - 12:00 - She invoiced three people and phoned one client, who is her son, so it was mostly a personal call.
12:00 - 12:30 - She ate lunch.
12:30 - 01:30 - She did her own data entry.
01:30 - 01:45 - She went to Starbucks.
01:45 - 02:30 - She went to the bank and did some shopping.
02:30 - 03:00 - She paid bills.
03:00 - 03:30 - She left to go to her chiropractic appointment.
03:30 - 04:00 - She was at her appointment.
04:00 - 04:30 - She picked up from one client and came home.
04:30 - 05:00 - She dug through the clients stuff just to find the cheque all the while saying how she doesn't give a damn about the client's data, she just wants the money. She photocopied the cheque and then went off to look at her mail. She got me to wrap her arm in an ice pack.
05:00 - 05:30 - She did some sorting. Of her own stuff.
05:30 - She FINALLY started on my list. She phoned CRA (our government). They were, sensibly enough, CLOSED AT THIS TIME. She phoned WCB (another government body in charge of on the job workers protection from injuries and claims of injuries). They too were, sensibly enough, CLOSED AT THIS TIME.
05:30 - 06:00 - She shut off her computer and went to lie down with her ice pack.
06:00 - 06:30 - She got up and started flipping through the Staples catalogue and suddenly decided she wanted to get Internet on her laptop! SO THEN SHE SPENT HALF AN HOUR BOTHERING ME ABOUT WHAT KIND OF STUFF SHE'D NEED. Needless to say, if I'm discussing this with her, I'm not getting any real work done. She was apparently oblivious to this.
After my input she decided WE NEED TO GET THIS DONE RIGHT THIS SECOND! LIKE TOMORROW!!! I calmly, and I guess not rudely, because she did not comment on the tone of my voice, suggested that perhaps we could do that at the beginning of February since HELLO!!! CORPORATE TAX DEADLINE IS THE END OF THIS MONTH!!! THAT'S FIVE WORKING DAYS AND I CAN TELL YOU RIGHT NOW I'M NOT WORKING THE WEEKEND!!! I didn't say that last bit :D
She grudgingly agreed that I might have a point.
06:30 - 07:00 - She made dinner while I finished off the spreadsheet I was working on when she interrupted me.
07:00 - I go home.
So, to sum up. SHE GOT NOTHING OF WHAT I NEEDED HER TO DO COMPLETED. It is very clear that she has a real problem with priorities. Recognizing what NEEDS to be done and doing it.
To compare in the same amount of time, I completed two tax returns, processed and faxed back two payroll requests, emailed back and forth to two clients, helped another client over the phone, and walked to the post office and dropped off the mail.
She will make $37/hr this year. I make $14 plus the 31 cents the health plan works out to an hour. So basically, she's making almost 260% off my work.
