Today is Remembrance Day.
So. Lots of TV Specials and Speeches and such. But I wonder if anybody beyond the people who fought really thinks about this day. I bet to most people it's just an extra day off work.
The other thing that bugs me about this day, and this just happened this year, is that stuff like the Gulf War and the fighting in Afghanistan is getting bandied about as well.
And no, I'm not saying we shouldn't remember those who died in those situations. I feel sorry for them and their families. I feel sorry because their deaths are a result of stupid political maneuvering.
And yes, war and politics go together. But you can go to war for good or bad reasons. And while the result is still the same, people end up dead, it makes the deaths even more tragic if they were lost fighting for a stupid purpose.
The whole point of Remembrance Day is to remember so we don't repeat past mistakes. But it doesn't seem to be working.
