Day 114 - Parents
Apr. 24th, 2011 10:57 amI could have kidnapped a child today.
I was on the elevator and when it stopped on the floor I wanted, the doors open and there was a little girl standing right in front of me ALL ALONE. It would have been nothing to take one step forward, grab her, and take one step back into the elevator. The doors close; the elevator continues to the ground floor; I step outside into my car and away I go. By the time her parents, who, when I got off the elevator, leaving the little girl UNkidnapped, were down at the other end of the hallway locking their apartment door, had gotten to the elevator and realized their kid wasn't there, I'd have been long gone; no one would have seen me or my car and that would have been that.
It constantly amazes me how many times I see this scenario in some form or the other. On the street - the kid is MILES ahead of their parents. In the mall - same thing. I dunno. Maybe I'm just an eternal pessimist. But everytime I see stuff like that I can't help envisioning the worst case possibility.
