Since we got our tax program on the 9th, I've done thirteen tax returns. After today, it would not have surprised me to find teeth marks on my tongue from biting it so hard. Why? Let me regale you with my boss' billing calculations.
She charges a basic $37 flat fee. That's her hourly rate. THEN, and this is the part that kills me, she charges SEVEN dollars for the first slip of each kind, and FOUR dollars for each slip there after in the category. So for example, if you came to her with ONE T slip, that's 44 dollars right there. If you had two T slips, that'd be 48 dollars. That doesn't include what she charges for office, which is another story all together. And then of course there's tax on top of that.
Today she did the billing for all those tax returns I completed. I kept twitching. She billed her son and his wife 47 dollars for ELEVEN MEDICAL RECEIPTS. FORTY SEVEN DOLLARS! And this is HER SON and his wife. I almost lost it however, on the last one. The young construction guy I told about a week or two ago? His tax return consisted of one donation and one medical receipt and then I did management salaries instead of a T4 for him because he's not yet on payroll. His cost? 37 + 7 + 7 + 7 = 58. The extra seven dollars? Oh that was for me punching in the amount of his management salaries. Which took like one second.
If it wasn't for the fact that I'm extremely broke right now, I would have quit right that second.
