[livejournal.com profile] sua_lay wanted something nice and quiet, comforting and gentle. Hope this fits the bill. Oh yeah, it's Michael and KITT tonight.

The night was quiet but not still. A lone breeze passed through the area ruffling the treetops gently before wending on its way. Moonlight dappled the ground as it peeked through the trees. A steady rain drummed against KITT’s roof before sliding off his body to sink into the ground.

KITT’s windows and windshield were black blocking out the soft glow of moonlight. Inside, the driver’s seat was reclined all the way back forming a make shift bed. KITT’s radio was playing something instrumental, soft and soothing. It blended with the plop plop of the rain drops and the darkness to create a warm cocoon.

“KITT?” Michael’s voice was low, a bit muffled.

“Yes, Michael?”

“Tell me a story.”

There was a pause in which a human would probably be blinking in surprise. “Aren’t you a little old for bedtime stories, Michael?” Kitt’s voice was dry but fondly amused.

The leather creaked as Michael snuggled deeper into KITT’s embrace. “Mm. Like listening to your voice.”

“I remember a time when you kept telling me to shut up.”

“I was very rude to you, wasn’t I? You should have sent me back.”

“Recalling my conversation with Devon after our series of tests, I tried.”

Michael made a little sound of surprise. “I’m glad he didn’t listen to you. Or me for that matter.”

“Yes.”

There was more movement as Michael turned his head and rubbed his cheek against the soft seat. “Keep talking.” Michael’s voice sounded far away as he drifted, lulled by the ambience and the closeness of his partner.

Another moment of stillness filled with sound and KITT spoke again. “Once upon a time there was a valiant knight who rode through the countryside on a magnificent black stallion. It was his job to ferret out evil before it could gain a foothold in the kingdom.”

Michael’s laugh was slurred around the edges. “You’re the valiant one.”

“Perhaps, but the stallion would look rather silly astride the knight.”

There was no response. KITT scanned Michael, pleased to find that he had slipped into slumber. As much as he loved having Michael close, his insomnia was taking its toll on both of them.

Huh. Seems a bit of angst stuck its toe in. Sorry!
