Day 10 - Oh What a Tangled Web We Weave
Jan. 10th, 2011 11:38 pmI think most of you are aware of the fact that for quite some time I have been in... I hesitate to call them negotiations... since no negotiating was involved... hm. Let's call it in the process of working out a deal with my boss regarding her business and the possibility of its purchase. Round about the middle of December 2010, the whole thing came to a head, resulting in my verbally and in writing telling my boss that I could in no way go ahead with the purchase.
I have no idea why, but my boss refuses to acknowledge this fact, probably because she knows full well she's not going to find anyone ELSE to pay what she's asking, and so along with her Christmas client gifts she also sent out a letter informing all her clients, that she was still turning the business over to me. So now she's consciously misleading the clients and implicating me in her deception.
Today, I spoke to two clients regarding what they're calling 'the business transfer'. One wanted to know when it was going to happen and the other wanted to 'give me a new client! and please send some business cards!' I was all Uhhh.
Frankly, I have no idea how to handle this. My innate desire is to be honest with the clients, but a) that will leave my boss looking like a moron at best and a dishonest person at worse and b) leave me to deal with the fallout of making her look like a moron at best and a dishonest person at worse.
I really don't need this crap right now. I'm trying to deal with my mom and my health and the co-op mess and several million other things all at the same time. So far this year is off to a very aggravating start.
