I've been house sitting for a friend with a cat who went on holiday. So I've been just dashing over to my place after work before I go there to check the messages, pick up the mail and papers, etc. For the last two weeks, everything was fine. Today when I got home for the last time, I realized I had a house guest.

Apparently, sometime between last night and tonight, I acquired a squirrel.

Don't ask me how he got in. The doors were locked. The windows were closed. I have no idea.

I helpfully opened the front and back doors and sat in the living room for a little while to see if he would just come out on his own. Unfortunately, he was either too confused or too scared to do so. So, girding my loins... hmm... as a woman, do I even HAVE loins to gird I wonder... Anyway, I took a broom and went into my bedroom where he was.

It was ridiculous. It was the equivalent of a fly trying to get out an open window. Around and around the bed he went. Wham, into the corners of the room. I was worried he was going to bash his brains out. Finally, after ten minutes of both of us running around in circles, I shoved the bed around so that it was against the wall which made it so he couldn't just run around underneath it.

Then I got between him and the bed and managed to get him heading toward the bedroom door. Luckily he skidded as he hit the hallway, otherwise he would have ended up heading towards the living room and that would have been a mess. The skidding gave me enough time to get behind him so he couldn't double back. Since the hallway is narrow and only has on left turn before it goes to the front door, it was just a matter of sweeping him along with the broom.

I'm sure that was enough excitement to last us both the rest of the year.

Tomorrow I get to clean up squirrel poop. Yay.

However, it could have been worse. It could have been a skunk.
