Day 119 - More Taxes - Part 2
Apr. 29th, 2009 11:30 pmSo I was supposed to go to the bank with my ma today to find out about this severance pay slip that's totally maxing out her taxes. From what she said she didn't actually receive any money; it went straight into an RRSP. So I theorized that if it went to an RRSP there should be some sort of slip or at least documentation saying so which would then pull the excess money out of the 'must be declared as income ' side which would then reduce her tax owing.
Last night she swore up and down that she received no such paperwork and how could this happen and panicpanicpanic. This morning she called me at 8:30am just as I'm walking out the door to go to work to tell me she found two letters. I bet you can see where I'm going with this. One letter was from the hospital saying here's a bunch of money for being such a good worker drone these last 30 years. The other was a letter from the bank saying we put this money you got from the hospital into an RRSP for you.
My mother: Is that what you were talking about last night?
Me: *headdesk* Yes mother. That would be what I was talking about last night AD NAUSEAUM. I didn't say that last bit of course. Now I just need to GET those two pieces of paper and change the sections on her tax return and hey presto! She won't owe $8300 in tax any more.
It's stuff like this that refutes Monty Python's claim that accountancy is deadly dull :D
