Day 115 - Computers Part 2
Apr. 25th, 2009 11:39 pmSo! Optimistic that I could figure out SOME way of restoring my computer, I went ahead with backing up my C drive. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that said stupid laptop doesn't come with a back up function either. Seriously, for how much I paid for this thing, that's just sad.
Anyway, after the billions of hours I spent backing up the d drive last night, I was pretty much not caring at this point, so I just moved everything that was in the program files over to the storage drive. I had every intention of backing up to a dvd, but it seems my dvd burner burns only cds. WHAT! I don't even know.
So, I moved stuff over, and emailed Acer's tech support. I got an auto response telling me about this wonderful feature called eRecovery. Which would be grand.. only... THEY DIDN'T INSTALL IT ON THIS MODEL LAPTOP! I rated this answer BEYOND USELESS and hit submit. I quickly got a live response telling me how to go about getting eRecovery working.
I followed the instructions and yes it worked. As I was going through the factory introduction set-up thing.... CURSES! I didn't back up outlook express. All my messages and email contacts gone. Sigh. I ALWAYS forget something whenever I do this... Or switch computers. Next time I'm getting one of those storage drives with cables.
Anyway, at the end of the day, computer is up and running. Full of security and virus definition updates. Will slowly work on reinstalling some other programs. Very slowly though, since I STILL haven't figure out what set it off in the first place.
Yeah, clearly some OTHER definition of easy is meant here.
