Whoo! Just got home from seeing the theatre version of the Rocky Horror Picture show. I had seen the movie several times but I've never seen a live performance, so when my ex boss asked me if I wanted to go, I was totally there!

I was a little worried about whether I would like it or not as I believe Tim Curry is a hard act to follow, but it was TOTALLY AWESOME!! The music! The costumes! The actors and actresses! Considering that they had a shoe string budget and limited space, they did very very well indeed.

They even managed to cast people that looked fairly close to what the main characters looked like in the movie. I think that helped bridge the gap quite a lot. They sold audience participation kits which included, a small bag of rice, the TINIEST water pistol I have ever seen and a lighter for the 'There's A Light' scene. The show was introduced by three girls dressed as usherettes with short shorts and bustiers and little bell boy hats. They sang the opening song Late Night Double Feature and did this dance routine with chairs. AND they had a REAL motorcycle roar up the aisle for the scene with Eddie. How cool is that!

One thing that I found really interesting from a personal point of view was that it kind of weirded me out to see everyone really fondling each other. There was one point where the background singers form this writhing mass of human flesh, arms and legs. I thought it weird that it felt like voyeurism to see it live when I have no problem watching it on film. Odd.

Also! Brad got to sing an extra song just after the scene where he finds out that Janet has slept with Dr Frank. He sings the Roxanne song only he wails Janet where you'd normally sing Roxanne. He had a really great voice and it was hilarious because he's dancing languishingly while he's singing. He grabs a mop and dances with it like it was a person. As the song goes on he gets more and more distraught and ends up smacking the mop around and strangling it. Working out his Janet frustration. Lol.

All in all it was a blast and I told the director that they should make it a tradition and have it every year. I said that since they had all the costumes and props made now, it'd that much less to put on. I hope they do perform it again next year. I would definitely go!
