Ahhhh! I love public TV!
Feb. 25th, 2004 07:34 pmWhy? Because I can listen to a full orchestra playing without paying an arm and a leg.
Lol... They had this big burly black guy playing a triangle. I wonder if they do that on purpose. And I wonder if the other musicians snicker at him. "Oooo! Look! It's the TRIANGLE player!"
I also wonder who invented the triangle anyway. Some musically inclined mathematician?
I especially liked the conductor. He really got into the music. Used his whole body to conduct the orchestra.
They played Bolero! One of my favourites! I know people who say they play classical music when they study because it doesn't have any words to distract them. I don't get that. I still get distracted. The music is compelling.
Hmm.. Maybe this year I should learn something about classical music. I am familiar with a lot of pieces but I don't know who they're by. People never believe me when I say most of the classical music I know I learned from watching cartoons. Good ole Bugs and the gang.
I had forgotten how slowly bolero builds up. And it makes me think of snake charmers for some reason. I think its the rhythm of the music. It's also interesting to listen to in that it seems to be the same notes over and over just played by different instruments each time through.
You'd think it would be boring. But its not.
That was a good way to end the day. Glad I flipped channels and found it.
