I'm Glad to Be Alive
Feb. 7th, 2004 06:53 pmWhat a great day! I had one of the best days I've ever had today. A friend of mine that I don't get to see very often because of her busy schedule asked me if I'd like to help her look over some spots for her to take her group of kids camping to in July. Since it was a rare opportunity for us to get together, I said sure.
She came and picked me up at 6:40am and we got on the road and drove to the ferry terminal. After a 40 minute ferry ride with the most awesome view of the mountains and the ocean and all these tiny uninhabited islands, we got off and then drove through some of the prettiest scenery. It was incredible to see the rock formations that made up the mountains we drove by.
Then we got to the area she wanted to look at. It was fabulous. A huge area of land. The mountain is on one side; the ocean is on the other side. There was easy access to the beach. Instead of sand, the beach was made up of different sized pebbles.
The camp has everything you could possibly want. There are four sections. Each sections is a self contained unit with a main lodge then several little mini lodges around it. The grounds keeper called them hulls. Each lodge has its own kitchen and bathroom facilities. They even had bunk beds in case someone got injured or the weather was so terrible that tents weren't feasible.
It was so beautiful and peaceful and the sound of the ocean shush shushing in the background was marvelous. After that we stopped to eat and then we drove to a little market area where we had Beaver Tails. Beaver Tails are a very thin deep fried pastry that's then covered with your choice of syrup flavours. I had apple and lemon. Then it's sprinkled with sugar.
Of course it was delicious.
Then we drove back to the ferry and had another nice viewing ride back to the mainland. Then she drove me home.
It doesn't sound like much but the weather was beautiful; the scenary was marvelous and the company was excellent. It was good to be able to talk to her for that length of time. Usually I only see her for a few mins every few weeks or so.
So I'm tired. But it's a good tired. To turn the Klingon saying on its head, it was a good day to be alive.
