You know, when YOU owe the government, they're like slavering wolves at your door, howling and gnashing their teeth, crying for their money. But when THEY owe you money, well that's totally different apparently.

About a month ago, I filed several applications for PST refunds for a client. I filled out the forms and included the invoices that we want to claim back the PST on according to their instructions yadda yadda. Yesterday, the client got a letter in the mail. We've received your applications for a refund totalling 1,732.43, however, before we can issue this refund we need.... A LOT MORE STUFF!!!

Suddenly, the client has to PROVE she has a business. She has to provide financial statements. Documentation of the product. Blah blah blah. Like yeah you were HAPPY TO TAKE HER MONEY when she was paying income tax for her company and paying sales tax for her company but now suddenly it's all OH BUT DO YOU REALLY HAVE A COMPANY?!?!??! WOEZ!!! Its things like this that make people into anarchists.

So now I have to run around pulling all this extra stuff together. Fun fun.

The other thing that's pissing me off today is that I got a call from my boss. She wanted to know how things were going. What she REALLY wants to know is if any money came in. It just so happened that a cheque did come in and I told her that my co-worker had taken it to the bank today. I also mentioned that another client was coming by to sign off on their tax and so my co-worker could take that cheque in on Tuesday. She immediately said oh she can take it today with the other one can't she! Uh no? SINCE IT'S HER FREAKING DAY OFF AND SHE'S NOT HERE!

After being all huffy that I wasn't going to call my co-worker and have her come down here on her day off, she proceeds to tell me that she's not going to be back when she said she was going to be. I am not surprised. For the last two years or so, every time she's gone away, she's managed to push the original date of her return back by days. This time is no different. She was supposed to come back on Monday. Now it sounds like she's not going to be back until Thursday.

Which would be fine since she hardly works when she's here anyway. However, before she left she was in the process of helping a client arrange payments for an outstanding tax arrears that he had. The deadline is the end of this month. She's going to be back ONE DAY before the end of the month, since the 31st is a Saturday. Now I shall have to be the one to take this over on top of everything else I am doing because sadly I actually give a damn about what happens to the clients and it will bother me to no end if the client's assets get seized because she can't get her priorities straight.

Then she asked me what I'm doing. One of these days I'm going to respond with picking my nose, but today was not that day and I told her I had divided my time between working on client so and so and helping my co-worker. I barely got to finish my sentence before she was saying so I should be able to bill them when I get back. I said, I don't think so. She's hasn't started the banks yet but I believe there's one other client that she just needs to do a comparison for. I'll get her to leave her hours in the billing file.

That was hardly out of my mouth before she asks me again who I'm working on. I repeat myself. And then because I know where this is going, I also add that I don't have all their data. I tell her I'm waiting for this, that and the other thing. It matters naught. Well I'm going to do up a bill anyway even if we don't have all the stuff. Blah blah blah she babbles on trying to justify herself. I don't give a shit. I break into her babbling with, well I should get going. I have to get stuff ready for the client that's coming. And I hang up on her.

If she's so concerned about money, maybe she should try sticking around and working for a change.
