wolfsbride: (pissed wolf)

So... Err.. I committed a crime today. Knowingly. Deliberately. And... I'd do it again if I had to.

I lied to a government representative by impersonating my boss. But it was for a good cause, I swear!

I log the mail so I'm the first one to see things, then it goes from me to either filed if it's just a statement or something that doesn't need anything done with it or it goes to my boss, where it will sit on her desk for days until I remind her and prod her to deal with it. Which drives me insane because I firmly believe in dealing with things as they come in, instead of leaving them to languish on your desk taking up space.

This particular client's situation is bad in that his company is in probate because he's in fact DEAD. He's the one with the cancer that I talked about before. Because the company is in probate, no funds are being released so my boss is refusing to do anything, which is a vicious circle because, yes, you guessed it, part of the probate process is that everything must be current before they'll finalize anything. So she's kinda shooting herself in the foot but whatever.

This however, is really a problem of her own making. Several months ago, the GST department called asking for this particular remittance. All my boss had to do was pull the form and fax it but no, she flipped out on the GST person and said she wasn't prepared to do anything. So because they didn't have this remittance, they assessed it as not filed. And then they assessed his other periods as well. Which then led to showing that this company owed lots of GST. When the statements came in, me being conscientious, I filed his later periods as nil which they were, and brought his records up-to-date.

So today in the mail, I got an Undisputed Amount Owing from the GST people. For all of five seconds, I contemplated bringing it to my boss' attention to deal with but since I KNEW she'd just start ranting and not do anything, I waited until she went out and called the 800 number. The nice lady asked for my information, which is when I pretended to be my boss and then forwarded me to another number. I had a lovely chat with a very nice gentlemen and between the two of us, we were able to figure out what went wrong and then he told me how to fix it.

I got off the phone, made copies of the forms I had filed, typed up a letter and stuffed everything into an envelope. I just now have to pop it into a mail box and I'm done. It took me maybe half an hour. It would have taken my boss a few days.

So yeah, next time something like this comes in, I'm going to be so tempted to do this again. Next thing you know I'll be embezzling company funds! It's a slippery slope, I tells ya.
