I loathe George Lucas.

I've never felt such a surge of over powering emotion before. Usually my emotions are level, and if they're going to swing, I always have plenty of warning. If you'd asked me before today, I'd have said I'm slow to anger.

Oh, it's not that I don't have a temper but usually I have to simmer for quite awhile before I boil over. Normally I can't be bothered expending the energy getting angry takes. All that changed today.

A friend immed me this clip....

So the other day, George Lucas gives an interview regarding the new SW DVD set. It contains this quote:

"The thing about science-fiction fans and 'Star Wars' fans is they're very independent-thinking people. They all think outside the box, but they all have very strong ideas about what should happen, and they think it should be their way. Which is fine, except I'm making the movies, so I should have it my way."

My response was swift and devastating. It was like being swept up by a wave and sucked under. Suddenly I was blindingly angry. You know how on the TV Incredible Hulk, David Banner goes, 'don't make me angry, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry' and then he starts to change? Well, no slow build up for me. It was just WHAM! If I were David, the transformation would have been instantaneous.

I actually RAGED for several minutes. I swear if George had been in the room, I'd have yanked off his toupee and fed it to him. Then I asked my friend for the link to the article the clip was from. And I went here and read.

And thought about what ole George said.

And while I understand where he's coming from, I still loathe him. The heights of his arrogance is astounding. Basically what he's saying is fuck you to the people who had made him what he is. He seems to have forgotten that without the fans he'd be nothing. No one exists in a vacuum. If people hadn't shelled out and continue to shell out massive amounts of cash to support his franchise, he wouldn't be able to, as he says, make movies and have it his way.

It's my fervent wish that people boycott his work. I'd like to see how superior he'd feel if he made absolutely no money from his endeavours. But I'm not naive enough to think that'll happen. I know they're as many people out there who love the new movies as hate them.

It's a sad sad day when someone has so little respect for his fans and has so few brains as to state it in black and white. But, on the bright side, I've now totally embraced the Dark Side.
